Documentary Photography & Storytelling by Sydney

Contact Sydney

I have worked as a communications coordinator for a natural resources agency, photographer for a corporate company, and am now a freelance documentary photographer. Driven by a passion for advocacy, my work shares the realities of life for people, animals, and nature through beautifully curated imagery and video.

I lived near Navajo Nation for three years, and my work is deeply influenced by the effects of colonialism on both the people and the land as well as bringing light to female advocacy issues as well. I document these issues with the intent to raise awareness and create meaningful change. My passion for conservation started in the fields of Kearney Nebraska, documenting the Sandhill Crane Migration in college while studying Journalism and Fine art Photography.

Freelance Work Around Navajo Nation

During the three years I lived in Gallup, New Mexico, I was welcomed by community members to document not just their artwork but their livelihoods. The work captured during this time reflects the stories, cultures, and resilience of the people I encountered, particularly the Native artisans and acquaintances of Navajo Nation.

I approached this project with deep respect and care, ensuring that all photographs were taken and shared with the full permission of those pictured. As a photographer, I am always mindful of the ethical responsibility that comes with documenting lives and cultures. This work is a reflection of my effort to share the world I experienced, hoping others would see the beauty of places that are often overlooked.

Freelance Projects

  • A photo concept called "Unity"

This image was created with women local to the town of Gallup, New Mexico. The nationalities/cultures represented are, Nigeria, Zuni, India and Vietnam. This concept was created with the idea of Uniting as one and facing storms together. Created in 2024.

  • Salton Sea

The Salton Sea has been deteriorating over the years due to water disappearing at a rate quicker than the amount of rain for that area. This area had plans to be a booming resort town but has instead turned into a reminder of deep rooted environmental and humanity problems.
